About the Challenge
Craving a challenge during 2020's Covid19 pandemic AND having lots of time to think about what's important... Inspired by "Everesting"* and ultimately, fundraising in, my sister, Debbie's memory, "Climb Your Mountain 29" was born. RUN BIKE WALK OR HIKE... "Climb" the equivalent of Mt Everest in 29 days. Climb anywhere... sidewalks, roads, trails, a peloton... even your staircase at home. Take the "mountain steps" challenge or count vertical feet. Kids challenge? Yes! Is there an "Older but Much Wiser Folks" challenge? Yes! Start Climbing July 19, 2020. You can take the challenge or Sponsor a climber. It's a way for individuals to join an event that they can do on their own and with a "mountain" of support. I'll be climbing with you. See you at the top! - Jennifer "29029 Everesting"
I first learned about "29029 Everesting" when in Vermont two years ago and happened upon the event in progress at Stratton Mountain. I've both skied and hiked Stratton... it's a pretty big mountain. But never had I thought of, heard about, imagined nor even considered Id witness people going up and down it 17 times! I got choked up talking to a woman after who had just finished in under the 36 hour limit. (Not everyone who signs up makes the full 17 times.) She was beaming. And I've been thinking about it ever since. Check out: 29029everesting.com/ One of many articles about "29029 Everesting". Read it! Sooo cool! Google and you'll find tons more. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/that-time-i-climbed-everestish_b_59ea2e23e4b092f9f241919c "Everesting" is an extreme athlete international challenge created by a group called Hells500 from Australia. Athletes pick any hill, anywhere in the world and complete repeats of it in a single activity (on bike or foot) until they climb 29,029 ft - the equivalent height of Mt Everest. It does not matter how long the "climb" takes but it must be completed in one attempt (i.e. no sleeping!) Check out: everesting.cc One of many articles about Everesting, a recent craze. Google and you'll find tons more! https://www.redbull.com/au-en/everesting-cycling-challenge-beginner-guide (Climb Your Mountain 29 Day Challenge similarly encourages individuals to take on Everest’s 29,029 vertical, but in an expanded period of time… 29 days!) |
Debbie inspired!
Prior to Debbie passing away in 2012, she raised over $52,000 for brain cancer research at Upstate Cancer Center in Syracuse NY. Debbie faced many challenges during her cancer treatment, but also Debbie loved to have fun. No doubt, she wanted you to have fun too. She loved a challenge such as hiking the Adirondacks, running the 4th of July races in Cazenovia NY, and she never missed a beat when it came to playing competitive tennis. Of course, Debbie did it all with style! We continue to be inspired by Debbie. Please join this year’s Climb Your Mountain Challenge. Donate to Debbie's Brain Cancer Research Fund and always think of Debbie when you see Lilly pink and green on the tennis courts. To learn more about Debbie… debbieinspired.com |
